John C. Corella

Corella Comapnies

John C. Corella Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of the Corella Companies, a wholly owned minority company, served in the United States Marine Corp in 1966 and is an alumnus of Arizona State University. Mr. Corella founded the first Corella Company, Corella Electric, Inc. (CEI) in 1976. Having worked for local electrical engineering companies, he started CEI with $250. Despite this modest beginning the company experienced rapid growth and grew to revenues exceeding $100 million.

In 1992 Mr. Corella founded Corella Electric Wire & Cable (CEWC). CEWC was selected that same year from nationwide competition, to enter into a $300 million strategic manufacturing alliance with AT&T Network Systems Division to operate a major state-of-the-art telecommunications wire manufacturing facility in Phoenix. This alliance has now been expanded to $700 million.

In 1994 Corella Companies went on to form Salisbury Technologies and acquired the former Northrop Grumman plant and the absorption of its workforce for the manufacturing of sophisticated electronic assemblies for various defense aircraft programs.

In 1999 Corella Companies went on to form DBA Communications which was selected by GTE to be the first Hispanic owned Phone Company. DBA purchased GTE for the Southwest, that netted Corella a 1.7 billion-dollar acquisition.

Having achieved success through partnerships, Mr. Corella is committed to helping other minority companies form meaningful partnerships. From its involvement in three successful partnerships with large corporations, Corella Companies has experienced the benefits from increasing contracting opportunities between disadvantaged companies and larger firms. Mr. Corella often donates his time and shares his knowledge and leadership through speaking engagements and personal consultations. Mr. Corella has also been an advisor to President Bush and President Clinton on minority business.

Mr. Corella was named the Regional Small Businessman of the Year, National Minority Contractor of the Year and has received Congressional and Senate awards. He has earned more than 25 awards and commendations for his business acumen and community service. Mr. Corella donates his time to many local charities such as The Salvation Army and American Legion Post 2 Vietnam Vet. He is a former Board member of The Arizona Science Center and spent four years on with the Phoenix Aviation Board. Mr. Corella currently serves as a member on several Boards, Faith Outreach for Christ, Phoenix Union Partnership of Business & Education, Grand Canyon Minority Development Council and Governor Janet Napolitano’s Appellate Court Nominating Committee, Prisoner Re-entry Task Force, Governor’s Latino Advisory Council and Board for Hispanic Business, to name a few.
