ANCHOR LEAD: A new survey released today from the nation's leading mortgage lender highlights home improvement trends. Brian Osuch has more. (:59)
SCRIPT: Money Sense, I'm Brian Osuch. A new survey by Wells Fargo indicates a large number of Americans make home improvements to enhance their quality of life rather than for financial gain. Seventy percent of those surveyed indicated that making the home more comfortable and attractive was their main reason for investing in home improvements. Findings also showed that homeowners with home equity accounts are significantly more likely to undertake larger remodeling projects. Wells Fargo's Kara Heiden.

ATLANTA - Hundreds of supply trucks rolled into Florida on Thursday to help restock shelves at home-improvement retailers as a flood of customers rushed to buy everything from plywood to generators in preparation for Hurricane Frances.
Some stores in Florida have remained open around the clock. Managers at The Home Depot Inc. and Lowe's Companies Inc. report lines forming outside some stores and people waiting in parking lots for stores to open.
At some Home Depots, the nation's largest home-improvement retailer, officials have handed out free pizza and water to keep weary customers happy.
